The real symptom
The product exists in admin and may be Active, but its storefront URL returns Shopify’s 404 page. Sometimes all product pages fail on one theme.
Likely causes
- Product is Active but not available on Online Store.
- Publication is scheduled for a future date.
- Product is excluded from the visitor’s Market or catalog.
- The link uses an old handle.
- The assigned product template was deleted or renamed.
- The theme lacks product.json or matching sections.
Confirmed Community fix
Community cases resolve this by publishing the product to Online Store or repairing the product template. Active status alone is not enough if the product is unavailable to the sales channel or theme.
Exact admin path
- Open Products and the affected product.
- Confirm Status is Active.
- In Publishing, confirm Online Store is selected.
- Check scheduled publishing.
- Review Markets/catalogs when applicable.
- Note the current URL handle and use the storefront preview link.
- If every product fails, duplicate the theme and inspect product templates under Customize and Edit code.
Simple checks
{
"sections": {
"main": {
"type": "main-product",
"settings": {}
}
},
"order": ["main"]
}
The JSON template must reference an existing section such as sections/main-product.liquid.
Do not do this
Do not redirect every product URL to the homepage. Fix publication, handles, Markets, or templates instead.
