A Shopify storefront can stop loading and show ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS even though the theme itself is healthy.
The likely cause
Common causes include an A record pointing somewhere other than Shopify, multiple A or AAAA records, an incorrect www CNAME, unsupported proxying, registrar forwarding, or another external redirect that conflicts with Shopify’s primary-domain behavior.
The confirmed Community fix
A Shopify Community case diagnosed the error when the custom domain’s A record pointed to a different server. Correcting domain routing resolved the loop.
Admin path
- Go to Settings > Domains.
- Open the affected domain and review warnings.
- Compare DNS records with the exact values Shopify displays.
Developer checks
dig example.com A
dig example.com AAAA
dig www.example.com CNAME
curl -IL https://example.com
If the permanent myshopify.com URL works while the custom domain loops, investigate DNS, proxying, and forwarding before touching Liquid.
